Arsenal tube station originally opened as Gillespie Road on 15 December 1906. The later construction of the football stadium in 1913 eventually led to a successful campaign, headed by Arsenal manager Herbert Chapman, for a change of name, and on November 5, 1932 it was renamed Arsenal (Highbury Hill).[2] The suffix was dropped some time around 1960, giving the current name of Arsenal.
